IronMind Expand-Your-Hand Bands - 10-Band Extensor Training Pack

$ 14.95

The cheapest, smallest, most underrated tool in grip training. IronMind Expand-Your-Hand Bands train the finger extensors, the muscles that open your hand, which every gripper, deadlift and hang neglects. Keeping them strong balances all that crushing work, which is why grip athletes use them for warm-ups, prehab and recovery. The 10-band pack includes two of every color: White, Green, Yellow, Blue and Red, lightest to heaviest. Latex-free, made in the USA by IronMind since 2004.

What It Trains

Every grip exercise works the flexors that close your hand. Almost nothing works the extensors that open it. Over months of gripper, deadlift and hangboard training that imbalance adds up, and many lifters feel it in the elbow. A few sets of band work after a grip session trains the opposite direction and keeps the hand balanced.

Which Band to Start With

IronMind rates the bands by color rather than pounds: White (very easy), Green (easy), Yellow (medium), Blue (hard), Red (very hard). Start on White or Green. Move up a color when your current band feels easy at 25 or more clean reps, and once Red is easy, double up two bands to keep progressing. The pack's two sets mean you always have a spare of your working color plus doubles for overload.

How to Use

  1. Loop the band over the ends of all five fingertips, including your thumb, as high on the fingertips as it will stay.
  2. Spread your fingers open against the band through a full range of motion, then close under control. Don't let it snap shut.
  3. Start with 2 to 3 sets of 15 reps per hand and build toward 3 to 4 sets of 20 to 25, three to five days a week.
  4. Move up a color when your current band feels easy at 25 or more clean reps.

These pair naturally with crushing work. A couple of quick sets after a Captains of Crush or Heavy Grips session is the simplest way to keep flexors and extensors in balance.

FAQ

Which band should a beginner start with?

Start with White. It looks trivial and it is. The point is teaching your hand the movement and building base volume without overworking your extensors on day one. Most beginners move to Green within a week and Yellow within a month.

Can I use them every day?

Yes. IronMind's own advice is to use them anywhere, anytime, every day. Use White or Green for daily warm-ups and prehab, and save Yellow and above for training sessions.

Will they help with elbow pain?

Many lifters find that adding extensor work eases the elbow discomfort that comes from heavy crushing, hangs or pulls with no balancing work. Bands do not treat injuries, and this is not medical advice. See a qualified clinician for persistent or sharp pain.

Are they worth it over a regular rubber band?

An office rubber band gives you one workout at a single, very light resistance. IronMind bands give you five clearly separated levels in a latex-free rubber built for repeated stretching.

Is the GripSaver Plus a replacement for these?

They do a similar job in different ways. The bands are the simplest, cheapest way to train extension and go anywhere. The GripSaver Plus combines extension and flexion in one tool. Many lifters keep bands in the gym bag and use either at home.
